Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railway

The Cumbres and Toltec travels through 64-Miles over the Former Denver and Rio Grand rail system that once stretched for hundreds of miles, throughout remote sections of Colorado and New Mexico. The railroad  crisscrosses the New Mexico and Colorado border 11 times before reaching either destination.

If you want scenery you got it. The Toltec Gorge, where the tracks hug cliffs 600 feet above the stream bed; Windy Point, the highest rairoad summit in the west with a view of the Chama Valley. The rairoad also goes through two tunnels and rides above two 100 ft tall trestles. At the highest part of the railroad is at Cumbres Pass with an elevation of 10,015, with elevation back at  Antonito at 7,888 feet.
